DesignJet Repair Shrewsbury, Shropshire
This job can be quite stressful at times. Especially when you have a customer needing their DesignJet repaired so they can meet deadlines and your struggling - the stress factor can rise.
However, when you’re having a pleasant, drive through the Cheshire countryside into Shropshire to carry out a DesignJet repair in Shrewsbury, you know, life is good.
That was one of my journeys last week, just the one call that day, no rush, just a nice so relaxing drive to Shrewsbury.
Customer had contacted us to report a noisy DesignJet T1120 44”. During our “Telephone Triage” it was ascertained that the noise was coming from the left hand side of the plotter. This can only be caused by bearing in the Power Supply Fan.
If this had been left, untreated, apart from being annoying, the fan would have eventually failed causing the PSU to overheat, the plotter would report a 03:10 error and then shutdown.
Nice simple fix, however, it does involve a lot of work, as the main PCA housing needs to be removed and stripped down to access the cooling fan.
On arrival, the fault was confirmed with the customer and the go-ahead attained to fit the required part. Luckily the customer had moved the DesignJet T1120 out of the main office so the repair could be carried out.
The labour for this repair takes about, an hour to complete, plus testing and calibration. It involves a lot of “screwing” to get to the fan. However, the repair time was irrelevant as this was accounted for in the quote. Knowing what is needed is vital to efficiency, that is why the telephone triage is so important.
Calibration & Testing
Once the fan had been replaced and the DesignJet put back together it was almost time for testing and calibration.
However, before this stage could be executed a full service was carried out to the plotter. This included cleaning the service station and the drop detect sensor aperture. Also, the rails were cleaned and lubricated. Along with the contacts on the pen carriage. Aerosol from the ink is an occupational hazard of printing, but can cause havoc with the plotters sub-systems.
Not a lot of calibration required for this repair. The important one was running the Main PCA Diagnostics, which incorporates the PSU. This tests the function of the power supply unit and the speed of the cooling fan.
Printhead alignment carried out and internal test prints completed. The customer was not ready to move the DesignJet back into the main office, so after listening to the noise (or lack of) from the fan was happy to sign off completion.
Once again, an efficient cost effective first time DesignJet Repair in Shrewsbury was attained by following our Total Care Solution procedure.
