DesignJet T920 Repair – Stalybridge - Cheshire
Quiet day today, Monday, just the one call, which was a short trip to Stalybridge over Cheshire way. A customer requiring a DesignJet T920 repair to be carried out.
The plotter had encountered a paper jam whilst printing a 5m long drawing. The customer had managed to remove the paper jam, but for some strange reason, the machine would not reboot after being switched off.
Once again the problem of a faulty DesignJet raised its ugly head. Downtime, particularly with a major machine like a DesignJet T920, can wreak havoc to a manufacturing company. These drawing were needed for the weeks workshop production, prior to the manufactured equipment being installed on site next week.
The customer was in a state of semi-panic due to seriousness of the failure. Fortunately, with our lighter than normal workload we were able to attend site before 12 noon. The call was received just after 10am. (This is not the norm, although we do endeavour to get every machine back up and running by close of play the next working day).
The actual fix was fairly straight forward. A major systems reset was performed and the plotter sprang back into life.
As part of our “Total Care Solution” policy a full service and clean was carried out. The printheads were aligned and the paper movement was recalibrated.
An internal diagnostic print was performed, this was more to check the functionality of the printheads and consequently the print quality of the machine.
Once everything was tested from a diagnostioc perspective, the machine was handed back to the customer for final testing.
During the long print (around 5m) the cause of the original paper jam was observed. Again, this was a simple solution. The customer was advised on a method to prevent this reoccurring. Two drawings completed successfully, and the plotter was signed off back to the customer.
