Wow, what a treat today, short journey west to carry out a DesignJet 5500PS repair in Preston. This really is an old classic HP Plotter. Fantastic in their day as a graphic printer. Sadly, time moves on, technology advances and the “Old Guard” simply cease to be.

Once again, the plotter just needed a good service and some serious TLC. Doing a regular service (once a year), on a DesignJet can prevent silly little problem occurring.
Now that the media misaligned error had been fixed, the plotter and the service carried out, the customer performed several test prints to check the integrity of the machine.

Service carried out, time to locate the offending printhead by running the print quality tests. Unfortunately, the test was not intense enough to highlight the printhead causing the fade out. Not an issue, experience is a wonderful thing and the correct printhead was changed.
