Refurbish DesignJet T790ps Altrincham, Cheshire
Short journey to today to deliver a refurbished DesignJet T790ps to Altrincham in Cheshire. The customer currently had a DesignJet 510ps on site.
Unfortunately, Hewlett Packard are winding down the DesignJet 500 platform and have stopped making inks and printheads for them. This to me is an absolute shame as these machines are solid workhorses.
Still a perfect replacement for a DesignJet 510ps is a T790ps 44”. It’s reliable, will process and print PDF’s within seconds as opposed to minutes and is a good solid platform when refurbished to a high standard.
This is exactly what happened with this customer. They needed a replacement for the DesignJet 510ps and the refurbished DesignJet T790ps was an ideal replacement. No matter how good the printer is, when there are no printheads and inks available its pretty much useless.
Also, during the “telephone Triage (part of Total Care Solution process), it was revealed the customer was using MAC’s. This meant the DesignJet to be supplied had to be a PostScript version, hence the DesignJet T790ps.
The customer Sew Creative (please link to https://www.sewcreativestudios.net/), provide a sewing service to their customers as well as sewing classes and workshops.
One other facility they wanted to provide was off the shelf and bespoke printing patterns. Unfortunately, due to the length of time the DesignJet 510 took to process PDF’s, this was impractical. However, with the processing power and print speed of the DesignJet T790ps this service is now up and running and proving very popular.
People often ask me “should we upgrade our plotter?” and my reply is always “if it’s still doing what you bought it for not necessarily”. However, when you experience the difference in print processing and print speed between a DesignJet 510 and a DesignJet T790 you will make the decision yourself.
HP “forcing” people to upgrade is influencing what people do. Yes, printheads and inks are still available, but they are either refilled or at a ridiculous cost. This situation will only get worse as time moves on.
