DesignJet T790 Repair, Chester-le-Street, County Durham
Bit of a trip out recently, up to Chester-le-Street in County Durham, well Stanley to be more specific. Customer reported a DesignJet 86:01 error code followed by “I found a piece of plastic in the plotter”. “I’ve tried rebooting the DesignJet now I’m getting 08.04 error”.
After requesting a picture of the broken part, to be honest I was still none the wiser. So, it was decided a site visit was required, to carry out a DesignJet repair and to do a full service. The plotter had not been looked at for around 7 years or so.
Always a good run up to the Northeast area, once you get passed Leeds. The M62 around Leeds can be a nightmare unless you have an early start.
Arrived on site nice and early ready for the challenge.
The carriage assembly was stuck just over mid-way towards the left-hand side. Despite this, with a bit of firm handling it came lose and so the machine was rebooted.
Boot process went OK until the plotter attempted to move the carriage. This caused a grinding noise and subsequent 86:01 error code. This was indeed the information I needed to identify the problem with the machine and realise where the broken plastic had come from.
DesignJet Repair
Big step forward, the clamps that hold the belt to the carriage assembly have broken, hence when the machine tries to initialize the carriage doesn’t move and a DesignJet 86.01 error is reported.
The obvious repair for this is a new carriage assembly, however, this is expensive and a waste of a good carriage. With a bit of imagination and guile, a suitable clamp can be fashioned, and the belt and carriage once again become one, working in perfect harmony. I have done this on several DesignJet’s and not had a single failure reported to date.
Now the original problem has been resolved, time to start with the service. This is done to every DesignJet repair that Hutchins IT attend as part of our Total Care Solution.
This program has been developed using our 20+ years of experience in the DesignJet Repair sector. It is designed to enable us, as a company, to provide the best possible service we can. By adhering to the 8-step process we ensure every DesignJet Repair we carry out is done to a set standard.
This enables us to produce a quality plotter repair and service at a very competitive price.
The plotter had been in use for around 7 years without a service, so it was in dire need of some serious TLC.
One thing that was obvious when the covers were removed, during the carriage repair, was the ink leakage from the service station. This is a common problem with DesignJet’s that have been in use for a few years.
As part of our Total Care Solution, the service station was replaced (after agreement from the customer), with a newly refurbished item. (As good as a new one but half the price). This is carried in the engineer’s car kit to alleviate repeat visits, thus reducing costs.
Now that all the replacements/repairs had been carried out, time to give the DesignJet a good clean and service. Along with an application of clean lubricant where required.
Finally, the HP Plotter was back together, fully working just awaiting the necessary calibrations to be carried out before final testing.
Another successful DesignJet Repair completed at the first attempt. This is largely due to our Total Care Solution. A process that enables us to determine exactly what is going to be required during the plotter repair. As well as the extensive spares kit the engineers carry.
Once the calibrations have been completed and the DesignJet tested to the customers satisfaction, the DesignJet was signed back over to the customer and put back into service.
