DesignJet Z3200 Repair Stockport, Cheshire
Back to Stockport today, for a double whammy. Two DesignJet Z3200 repair’s, a 44” and a 24”, both at the same company. Been repairing these machines for this customer for a long time now.
DesignJet Z3200 Repair 44”
Must start somewhere so may as well be with the big one. This plotter was reporting a DesignJet 21.10 error code, also the machine was leaking ink down the leg on the right-hand side. No big drama just a problem with the service station. This is common with all DesignJet’s.
The purpose of the service station to look after the printheads. Eventually they get full of ink and must be replaced. They simply cease to function correctly.
As part of our company’s green policy, where possible we recycle service stations. This is a horrendously messy task; however, it does produce a valuable working product that can “go round again”. It also reduces land fill and customer repair costs. Basically its good for the environment, the customer and the engineering company – literally a win-win-win situation.
Due to our “Total Care Solution” policy the problem had been identified during the” Phone Triage” prior to the site visit and a recycled service station taken from stock. So, now just a matter of removing the old one from the plotter, carrying out a full service and clean and then installing the refurbished one.
Also, whilst carrying out the service it was noticed the top cover sensor was broken. Not an issue, these are carried as part of the car spares kit, however what a pain in the proverbial top replace. The rear cover must be removed followed by the central cover. Not difficult just awkward and time consuming.
Finally, the service was completed, the service station replaced, and a new cover sensor installed. Time for a quick functionality test, before replacing all the covers ready for recalibration.
Covers replaced, plotter rebooted, and ink system physically installed. Now the fun begins. The DesignJet now needs to prepare the ink system, should be done in about 50 minutes. Time to get on with the A1 plotter.
DesignJet Z3200 24”
Nothing much wrong this plotter, just needs a full service and the DesignJet 03.10 error resolving. “Why oh, why didn’t the customer mention this earlier”.
A DesignJet 03.10 error is Power Supply Unit (PSU) Failure and is normally caused by the PSU Fan. “Yeah, it’s been noisy for a while now”. No worries. Again, these are common failures and as a result it’s a part that is carried in the car kit.
Stripped the left-hand side of the plotter down and replaced the Power Supply Cooling Fan, reassembled after carrying out a full service. The DesignJet error code has been cured, and the machine is “as sweet as pie”. Nice and quiet with a good air flow through the PSU and main electronics module.
All that’s left to do is recalibrate where required, align the printheads and fully test the plotter. These procedures are carried out whenever an engineer for Hutchins IT Limited attends a plotter repair call out. This is in line with our Total Care Solution policy.
Now that the DesignJet Z3200 24” is fully functional again, time to finish off the Z3200 44”. The ink system has now fully initialised and installed. It really is disconcerting how long that takes. Printheads have automatically aligned, all that’s needed now is to fully calibrate and test the plotter.
Finally, after what seemed an age both plotters are now fully functional and working like charms. Customer is happy as he can now continue with his production.
