Once again, a westward trip along the M61 to carry out a DesignJet T2600 repair in Preston, Lancashire.
Customer had reported a DesignJet 0065 0001 0001 error code. Although this looks scary the actual translation of it was quite straight forward.
Error 0065 0001 0001 – Media Motor Advance Issue. Which basically means the Plotter is having problems when advancing (feeding) the media whilst printing.
As part of our Total Care Solution, after the enquiry had been received, the customer was contacted to obtain more information on what was happening. From the data obtained an action plan was formulated and agreed upon by both parties (the customer and us).

This error is caused by the Media Advance Assembly (Paper Drive Motor). It basically doesn’t register the media movement when its being fed through the plotter. Following the HP guide lines this requires the replacement of the Media Drive Assembly to resolve the issue. This is an expensive part.
Experience of working on these machines has taught, is this is not always the case. Usually, a good service is all that is needed. Although this is not always successful that was the plan of action agreed with the customer.
Once on site the DesignJet Error Code was verified as stated. From there a full service and clean was carried out. This included cleaning and relubricating the rail that the pen carriage travels on. Cleaning the scan axis encoder strip, cleaning the star wheel assembly and much more. Additionally, the media motor assembly was removed and fully cleaned, especially the encoder disk and its sensor.
Once all this was completed the Plotter was recalibrated as required and fully tested. Prior to handing the DesignJet back to the customer, the outer covers were fully cleaned with any “grubby paw prints” being removed.
This was a classic example of how our Total Care Solution works. By doing the groundwork up front and gathering the required information, the call was conducted in a fast and efficient manner. No parts were fitted unnecessarily, and a first-time fix was achieved. Thus, costs were reduced, and everyone was happy.
